Layered nepheline syenites

Scenic view in the southern part of the Illimaussaq Complex.

Famous layered sequence of eudialyte-rich nepheline syenites in the lower part of the Ilimaussaq complex, locally known as ‘kakortokites’. These rocks are of economic interest (currently explored by TANBREEZ AS) for their eudialyte content, a REE-bearing Na-zirconosilicate, and of scientific interest because of their spectacular rhythmic magmatic layering.
